A Complex Landscape
Having
grown up in a suburban society, I view living in the big city as a
chaotic endeavor that can only be experienced in person. My
photographs reflect how I perceive each space, and what I take away
from them. Each photograph is altered in a way that reflects how I
see the surroundings, either being completely absurd, or just
slightly altered. The spaces themselves, combined with my own
perceptions of each, control the work.
Each
piece consists of multiple photographs combined into one. Multiple
imagery is used in the same way that the photograph are laid out,
sometimes making sense, while other times informing the viewer that
they are looking at a combination of images, rather than just one
strict image. Having a break in the landscape helps me convey what I
feel the imperfections are within each surrounding.
By
introducing the viewer to my own perceptions, I hope to force them to
rethink about the world they live in. Forcing the viewer to question
what they are looking at, and giving them the ability to walk away
with wonder drives my interest in making the work. I want to convey
to the viewer that these spaces are strange, but feel real at the
same time, as this is how I experience each space.
